Self-help for prostate support

Good medicine is teamwork and respect between
practitioner and patient - but why give any doctor or therapist
total power over your disease? They have many clients, this is
your life.

Most of these self-help strategies cost little or nothing. Al
adopted them gradually, following our instincts. Now,  some are
habit, others he dips in and out of.

  • Qi gong - Ancient Chinese exercise combining
meditation, exercise and breathing practised outdoors
each morning to oxygenate the body, lift mood and help
    beat cancer
  • Relaxation and rest - Al learned and practises relaxation
techniques, gets plenty of sleep at night and takes a rest
    in the afternoon
  • Having fun - outings, company, laughter and quiet times
for reflection. On TV and radio, informative, inspiring,
funny programmes, not violence and cruelty in the guise
    of entertainment.
  • Exercise - whatever turns you on and you can
comfortably manage. Al walks, swims, gardens
  • Visualisation - exerting power of mind over body by
getting relaxed then visualising cancer cells eliminated
and the prostate glowing with health
  • Affirmations - look in the mirror and affirm love and
approval of yourself, then go round reminding yourself all
day. Improves state of mind and relationships.
  • Environment - we get close to nature in country and
seaside and try to avoid traffic and other toxic fumes,
    insecticides, pesticides and cigarette smoke
  • Diet - brown, organic where possible and minimal animal
fat. So loads of vegetables, pulses, whole grains and
nuts, oily fish, olive oil, green tea and clean water. We
generally avoid dairy products, caffeine, sugar,
    processed foods, non-organic meat
  • Drinks - we drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day,
green tea, roibos tea and fresh fruit/vegetable juice. We
avoid coffee, fizzy drinks and alcohol
  • Orgasm - very good for the prostate. If you can, do it
often, using any possible method for stimulation. If you
can't, then hug, touch, kiss and be inventive in search of
pleasure. Love and intimacy are basic human needs and
    powerfully therapeutic
