| Causes, prevention and humane, up-to-date treatment Real-life research by Al Smith and Faith Warn |

We created the Prostate Cancer Now website for men with
prostate cancer, those who care about them and professionals
who want treatment advances. By passing on our own
experience, campaigning out there and digging deep to find the
latest research and ideas, we give knowledge and support to
others.
The site's usefulness is confirmed by the many men who
contact us, wanting to take power in their quest to live well and
long.
The site is totally independent; we take no advertising or
kick-backs. Your involvement through a donation helps us
maintain independence, expand content - and do much more
research and campaigning.
Go on - explode another brick in the wall of ignorance and
despair! Just click on the donate button . . .

Al
As a child of the 1930s and '40s I was a conventional type.
Through teenage National Service in the RAF and a lifetime in
'conventional' employment with a national newspaper -
increasingly stressful as the years went by - I seldom needed to
see a doctor and, when I did, I happily followed the prescription
and 'got better'.
Luckily, when the 'big one' turned up I was enjoying a new life
with a loving and resourceful wife who was not prepared to let
me follow the old prescription routine. She gave me so much
more than dutiful love and support, enabling me to sit here,
feeling fit and looking positively to the future writing this.
A long future growing tomatoes, taking photographs, enjoying
music, watching my family grow and broadcasting hope to fellow
travellers down the prostate path.

As a rebel of the 60s, I believe that treatment only of physical
symptoms by an authority figure is an outdated form of
medicine. It failed my mother - who died of breast cancer when I
was 10 - and failed to solve my own past health problems.
When my beloved Al became ill, it was terrifying for us both. But
he didn't want to die and I wasn't about to let him.
'Conventional' treatments for prostate cancer horrifically abuse
the body and are based on obsolete science. As a writer, I
enjoy research and set out to find, through the very latest
knowledge, a loving and respectful way to heal body, mind and
spirit.
With heroic courage and determination, Al has accepted and
put into practice major change in his outlook, ideas and
lifestyle. It's been a soul-searching journey for me too but we
both now feel closer to the meaning of our lives and to each
other, our family and friends.
